Transparent PNG or background: choosing the right image

Avoid unwanted edges, cropping and blurry images.

These are composition illustrations made for this guide, not editor screenshots.
  1. 1.PNG is a format, not a transparency guarantee

A PNG can have a background. Check the Background field and preview. Wallpapers are used as complete images even when their file format is PNG.

  2. 2.Choose a cutout for a collage

A transparent image lets you place an object over a color, photograph or text. Use it as a focal point or accent without competing with the message.

  3. 3.Choose a background to fill the artboard

Compare the wallpaper ratio with your artboard. A portrait background may need cropping to fill a landscape design. Choose which part to keep.

  4. 4.Check dimensions and license

The listed dimensions describe the available resource, not the thumbnail size. Avoid excessive enlargement and read the license before publishing or using a resource for client work.
